I have always found it curious that Dvoretsky, a trainer whose methods revolve around the solving of carefully chosen positions by his pupils, did not confront this predicament in grandmastwr many books.
Is Aagard’s Grandmaster Preparation: Calculation good?
Each chapter begins with a short introduction to the topic at hand, and this is followed by the positions for solving. Share your thoughts with other customers. I will have a review and discussion of the Steps Method in the weeks to come.
I’m always interested in opinions about the usefulness of books for players of different rating strength and the warnings that reading books aimed at upper level players is a waste of time for lower ranked players. Positional puzzles with good commentary are pretty far and between – definitely recommend that book to anyone who feels lost after the opening, before tactics start cropping up.
Instead of relying on a store of killer opening novelties, Carlsen is content to try and find positions that he understands better than his opponents, jacib use his superior decision making skills to successfully outplay them.
Some of these items ship sooner than the others. Aagaard is an excellent writer and a skilled pedagogue.

Whether this will help lead them to the Grandmaster title is an open question, but there can be no question that they will show serious improvement if they conscientiously work through Calculation.

I’m familiar with a couple of his Chessbase CDs “Right Decisions” has a few subtopics on calculation.
I have discovered that I struggle with simple decisions, calculating too much and taking too much time in doing so. While Aagaard claims that players of all strengths have found these questions helpful, there remains the potential for some misunderstanding of their utility.
Positional Playlike all of the books in the Grandmaster Preparation series, is not a book for the faint of heart.
You might think you understand various themes, but even assuming that your knowledge is that of a master, the application of that knowledge still is difficult.
